Culinary Delights for Easter

easter eggs and bunny

With no real prospect of getting out and about soon, this year it feels important to try and make Easter time at home all the more special. Synonymous with chocolate eggs, bunnies and easter egg hunts the upcoming holidays could be a good time to try making some delicious treats at home.

Special coffees

ester coffee ideaWith many of the more famous coffee shops offering easter themed drinks, why not try some out at home instead. That way you can enjoy a delicious coffee inside in the warmth in front of your favourite film or Netflix show. It’s not all about the kids, us adults deserve a treat too!

Coffee and chocolate – who doesn’t love the combination of coffee and sweet delicious chocolate. Known traditionally as a Mocha, simply make your coffee and add some cocoa or break off some easter egg and let it melt into your coffee.

Alcoholic coffees – there are all kinds of combinations of alcohol and coffee you can try but you can’t get much better than irish cream and coffee. Simply serve a shot of your favourite coffee in a tall mug or glass, add a scoop of ice cream and pour some irish cream on top, this coffee/dessert is a firm favourite, decadent and delicious.

Easy Cakes and Bakes

If you are looking for something to make with the children, here are some ideas:

Easter egg nest cakes – an easy to follow and fun recipe that doesn’t take too long to make. It uses all of those ingredients that you may already have hanging around the house. Here’s the recipe https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/eastereggnests_93841

Easter themed biscuits – If you don’t fancy baking as such but want to do something fun, why not use some shop bought biscuits and some decorating items and let the kids make their own creations. Things like mini eggs, hundreds and thousands and icing are all you need!

Hot Cross Buns – wanting to test out your baking skills? Why not have a go at that delicious easter staple of hot cross buns, every year we wonder why we only have these once a year? Answers on a postcard. Here’s a great recipe https://www.recipetineats.com/hot-cross-buns-recipe/

Ice Cream and Desserts

We love ice cream at Takeaway Supplies and enjoy supplying different flavours, but we understand that when you can’t go out to your ice cream parlour, you might want to create your own scrumptious ice cream treats.

ice cream hot cross bunEaster Egg Sundae – for those with a very sweet tooth a simple but amazingly delicious dessert is to simply take a small easter egg. Break it in half and fill with vanilla ice cream, add your favourite toppings (we like fruit in this dessert to stop it being too sickly) and away you go!

Going back to childhood – remember coke floats? Ice Magic or knickerbocker glories? Easter doesn’t have to be all about chocolate. Recreating these childhood treats can not only stir up happy memories but help to keep the traditions alive by getting your children involved too.

These are just a few ideas for you, but remember, the most important thing to remember is that there are no rules. Try a few different things out, find out what you do and don’t like and most of all enjoy yourselves!  Laughing over a disastrous cake that hasn’t risen or a flavour combination that you need to dare each other to try is much more fun than aiming for perfection!
